Betadine skin disinfecting and cleansing solution as an active agent contains povidone iodine, a complex compound of polyvinilpyrrolidone and iodine.
This complex is iodophor, in which polyvinilpyrrolidone acts as iodine carrier.
In contact with skin, iodine is released slowly from the complex and acts potently on bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and spores.
The action takes place immediately and lasts longer than the common iodine preparations.
Indications:
– Preparation (disinfection) of skin and mucous membrane (including vaginal mucous membrane) for surgical intervention, injections and aspirations;
– Disinfection of wounds, prevention of infection in burns, incisions and other local lesions;
– Treatment of infected surgical incisions, infected traumatic lesions, treatment of lacerations and abrasions, infected decubitus ulcers, pyodermias and secondary infected dermatoses and 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Betadine is for topicxal use.
It should be applied as it is, undiluted, several times per day and then let it dry for 2-3 minutes.
The treatment with betadine lasts as long as the infection or the risk for infection is present.
If after the discontinuation of betadine the infection appears again, you may start again using it.
