Description

Calcium is an essential mineral for maintaining the electrolyte balance and for the proper functioning of many regulatory mechanisms.
Calcium deficiency is associated with neuromuscular disorders and bone demineralization.
Calcium increases the efficiency of leukocytes, increases phagocytosis and has an antioxidant effect on capillaries during cold.
Calcium intake increases its concentration in serum and throughout the body.
Calcium gluconate is indicated as:
-additional treatment for osteoporosis of various etiologies (postmenopausal osteoporosis, corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis, gastro-ectomy or immobilization);
-prophylaxis of bone demineralization before, during or after menopause;
-additional treatment in rickets or osteomalacia, latent tetanus (in acute cases calcium gluconate is used parenterally);
-addition in cases of increased needs for calcium during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in the period of growth (childhood, adolescence);
-allergic condition (as additional medication).
Do not take calcium gluconate if:
-you are hypersensitive to calcium gluconate or to any of the other ingredients present in the formulation;
-you have hypercalcemia (eg in hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D overdose, tumors that cause decalcification, eg:
plasmacytoma, bone metastases);
-suffer from severe hypercalciuria;
-suffer from severe renal insufficiency;
-suffer from Zollinger-Ellison syndrome;
-suffer from ventricular fibrillation.
Intake of calcium gluconate with food and drinkSome foods (eg spinach, whole grains, milk and dairy products) reduce the absorption of calcium from the digestive tract.
PregnancyTell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Calcium gluconate can be used in pregnancy, but the dose should be determined by your doctor.
BreastfeedingTell your doctor or pharmacist if you are breast-feeding.
Calcium gluconate can be used during the period of breastfeeding.
All medications can cause side effects.
Sometimes they are serious, most of the time not.
Tell your doctor if you have any of the following side effects:
-gastrointestinal disorders (gas, constipation, diarrhea);
-exanthema or allergic reactions, such as:
urticaria, angioedema, itching.

Usage

Always take this medicine as advised by your doctor.
If you have the impression that the effects of calcium gluconate are too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
The following dose is recommended:
Adults:
1 - 1.
5 g, 3 times a day.
Children:
0.
5 - 1 g, 2 times a day.
It is advisable to take the tablets at the same time every day.
The tablets are swallowed as is, accompanied by a glass of water.
Your doctor may ask you to take calcium gluconate for a long time.
Ask your doctor for advice if you are not sure for how long you should take it.
