ALGOFREN® contains ibuprofen a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a derivative of propionic acid.
It presents significant anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect, mostly attributed to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis that it causes.
Ibuprofen is indicated in the following conditions:
1) Inflammatory and degenerating arthtropathies.
2) Chronic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
3) Relief from mild to moderare pain e.
g.
headache, toothache, and dysmenorrhea.
4) Acute gout.
5) Painful non-articular rheumatic conditions.
ALGOFREN® should not be administered in the following conditions:
1) in patients with active peptic ulcer or a history or other conditions of the Gl system or a history of recurrent bleeding.
2) in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation relevant to previous NSAIDs treatment.
3) in patients with a history of bronchospasm, asthma, rhinitis, urticaria or allergic reactions caused by aspirin or other NSAIDs intake.
4) in patients with history or active ulcerative colitis, Crohn disease, recurrent peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
5) in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
6) ALGOFREN® is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (Safety for such use has not been documented yet).
7) in patients who are being administered other NSAIDs or aspirin concomitantly.
8) in patients with an hematological condition.
9)in patients with severe hepatic or renal failure.
10) in per os administration in children younger than 3 months old and weighing less than 6kg.
11) in patients with severe heart failure.
12) in children younger than 12 years old regarding the strength of 200 mg.
Pregnancy and lactation Ibuprofen should not be used during the first two trimesters of pregnancy while during the third trimester is contraindicated.
During the labor ibuprofen is not recommended.
Ibuprofen is excreted in the breast milk in very low concentrations.
NSAIDs should, if possible, be avoided when breastfeeding.
This is an OTC drug, so it can be taken without a doctor's recommendation.

Pharmaceutical forms for children:
Children and infants (over 3 months and over 5Kg):
chronic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis the usual dose is 30-40mg/kg/day divided to 3 or 4 doses.
Maximum daily dose 2.
4g in 3 divided doses.
As an Analgesic-antipyretic:
20mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses.
Maximum dose:
30mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses.
It should not be administered to feverish conditions for a timeduration longer than 3 days as well as in painful conditions for a time duration longer than 6 days, unless instructed otherwise by the attending physician.
