Sodium Bicarbonatum 500 mg

Sodium bicarbonate belongs to antacid drugs.
It is used to treat stomach hyperacidity.
It is contraindicated if:
– you are allergic to sodium bicarbonate or to any of the other ingredients present in the formulation;
– you suffer from a serious kidney disease;
– have a high pH in the blood caused by breathing problems (respiratory alkalosis);
– you have low levels of calcium in your blood;
– you have low levels of chloride in the blood, caused by the consumption of certain medications such as diuretics;
– you are 12 years old;
– you are pregnant.
Pregnancy and breastfeedingIf you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
There is no data on the use of sodium bicarbonate during pregnancy, so it should not be used, as it is thought that it may worsen the bloating that occurs during pregnancy.
Sodium bicarbonate can be used during breastfeeding.
Possible side effects:
– allergic and anaphylactic reactions such as urticaria or bronchospasm;
– abdominal pain, vomiting, bloating, stomach lesions;
– metabolic alkalosis, especially in patients suffering from renal insufficiency;
– increase in sodium levels in the blood;
– pulmonary edema;
– cerebral edema;
– hypotension;
– intracranial hemorrhage;
– increase of carbonic anhydride in the blood.
